More Rainbows

When Aaron drove me to work a few weeks ago, we came across this beautiful rainbow just above Fort Ware. It was the most brilliantly coloured rainbow I have ever seen!

You can see the red roof of my cabin.

Brilliant!

Christening our New Kayaks

Well finally the sun came out today! Aaron & I have been waiting for quite a while to christen our new kayaks, & the time had finally come.

Arriving at Blue Lake

Aaron's in...

Aaron's out...

Aaron's wet...

Then we were on our merry way

Amazingly clear water

... a little deeper

We REALLY enjoyed ourselves & will be doing way more kayaking!

Khutsedzi k' e' Camp Part 3

Well after the great adventure on the mountain it was time to recuperate.
Thankfully we had one more day that was sunshine. I went with the Elders & a couple of participants in the boat to the other side of the lake, to go fishing, and check out the falls I had heard so much about. Here are some pictures of the day.

A beaver dam
They eat a lot of beaver up here, which is maybe why there were no beavers to be seen.

After checking out the other side of the lake & spending some time on the beach there we headed over to the falls.

The falls were actually a spiritual experience for me.
1 word... amazing...
I could have stayed there all day.

We stopped at this creek where 1 of the participants caught a huge Dolly.

When we got back to the camp the smoke was lingering above & it looked pretty cool.

And of course I had to do some cheesey poser pictures.
I did after all spend most of my time at camp in my bib raingear!

Here some pictures of the mosquito war wounds I encountered.
Talk about insane itch! My whole body looked like this!

The next day the rain returned...
The plane was supposed to be coming in with my relief worker & dear friend from university Kim, but the weather had us socked in and the plane unable to get in.
I made the most of the rain & learned from the Elder how to make moccasins.
Here are my first pair of moccasins. I am going to put sheep skin on the inside & trim & then give them to my Mom.

The following day the plane was able to get in & I found out I was leaving 1 day early.
I was so happy to see Kim's smiling face!

I enjoyed my hour or so with Kim & the was on my way back to Fort Ware.
Here is an aerial view of camp.

When I got back I was pleasantly surprised to see Aaron waiting on the shoreline for me. He brought me back to Tsay Keh so I could sleep in my own bed & spend the following day doing laundry& cuddling my kitties. I woke up the next morning with a surprising longing to be in the bush. That even surprised me!
It was an amazing experience I am so grateful for, but I would never want to do it again.
Aaron drove me back out to work in Fort Ware on Monday morning.
