Grand Forks July 2016 Day 1&2

Grams, Aaron & I hit the road for a summer trip to Grand Forks.  I enjoyed myself so much last summer that i wanted to show Aaron all the cool things about Grand Forks.  It was an adventure getting there, with a 'minor' incident at a rest stop in Abbotsford in which Aaron had to spring into action and diffuse a tense situation. I told Grams it's never a dull  moment with us.  Along the way the weather was constantly shifting and we were waiting for the storm to hit as it seemed to loom just off of our path, we did get lucky and only had sprinklings of rain here and there.  It was interesting driving through Rock Creek after seeing the devastation of the fire last year and how much the land has done to start it's healing.  We also had to stop so I could say hi to my 'friend' just north of Osooyos.

Day 2 - We went to visit with Ann & Roy for the morning and early afternoon.  Then it was my turn to be the tourist guide:) Aaron and I did the Doukhobor Heritage Drive, stopping at the Boundary Museum along the way.  This museum used to be the school my Gramps went to.

The TLC purchased an old Doukhobor Village and are working to restore it, can't wait to see it done!
Deer EVERYWHERE!

We also went out North Fork so I could show him where the Bojaia Dalina Doukhobor Village once sat.  That is where my Gramps was born and lived until he was taken from his parents and they were sent away to the Doukhobor Prison on Piers Island (Just off of Victoria).

We then cruised along the south side of Grand Forks on a lovely scenic drive and said a brief hello to the USA.

In the evening Aaron & went for a walk around town to get some exercise, seriously there are deer EVERYWHERE!

We met up with my cousin Wanita, her hubby Byron, & her mom Ellen for music in the park.  Finally we got to meet!

Stay tuned for Day 3's trip to Castlegar & Nelson!

Ukee trip July 2016

We made another quick trip out to Ukee just in time for the beginning of Ukee days.  We got to meet up with our friend Darcey at the Surf & Turf hosted by the chefs at Black Rock Resort.  It was a delicious plate of tasty treats.  We also got to spend some time with other great people Aaron has connected with through work, and take in some of the beautiful scenery on the Wild Pacific Trail.
